Tips on How to Cover Wrinkles with Make Up

on Jul1 2011

Here are a few make-up tips that will help you cover wrinkles and have a more youthful appearance regardless of your age.  You will also learn about the value of a good facial moisturizer.  Using a moisturizer could be more important than you think.

Let’s start with your eyes.  By focusing on your eyes, you can draw attention away from problem areas.  If you have dark circles, you can use three dots of concealer to hide them.  Your concealer should be a shade lighter than your foundation.
You can use your fingertips to blend in the concealer, but you should never rub.  Constant rubbing pulls and damages this thin area of skin.
The next step is to apply a base to help hold the eye shadow in place.  Older women should use light shimmering colors, never dark ones.  Apply just a touch of the lightest shadow to the area between your nose and the corner of your eye.  This helps to get rid of shadows that make you look older.
Use mascara only on the upper eyelashes.  You can use a brush to define the lower ones if necessary, but you do not want dark mascara on your lower lashes.
Be sure that your brows are well-groomed.  Use a light colored pencil, not a dark one.  Remember that the key to a more youthful look for older women is to always use light glowing colors. There is a tendency to try and cover wrinkles by using thick heavy foundation and powder.  That doesn’t work.  It actually highlights the wrinkled area.
You want to choose a foundation that is very close to your natural skin color and apply a very thin layer.  You can use your concealer to hide age spots and other dark areas.  When it comes to makeup as we age, less is better.  If you try to cover wrinkles with a thick layer of makeup, it will end up getting stuck in the crease created by the wrinkle.
Here is the first reason that a good facial moisturizer is so important.  There are ingredients that will help to keep your makeup from creasing.  Others will help to bend the light, so that a wrinkle appears less deep.

These ingredients can also help to reduce wrinkle depth with continued use.Grape seed oil, for example, dries to a light film that keeps make-up smooth.  The protein keratin will help to cover wrinkles by bending the light and it will work to reduce wrinkle depth if you use it on a daily basis.
The antioxidant coenzyme Q10 is another good choice.  In several studies, it has been shown to significantly reduce wrinkling after three months of use.
Apply the moisturizer first and allow it to dry for at least a minute, before applying your makeup.  Use a good brand of makeup, ideally one that contains zinc oxide to protect against UVA light.  Most cosmetics provide protection only against UVB.
You can also use an eye contour gel to help reduce bags and dark circles.  While the current goal is to cover wrinkles, your future goal should be to reduce their depth by protecting your skin.  Learn more about how to do that.

Anti aging wrinkle

on Jun30 2011

Anti-aging creams are predominantly moisturiser based cosmeceutical skin care products marketed with the promise of making the consumer look younger by reducing visible wrinkles, expression lines, blemishes, pigmentation changes, discolourations and other environmentally (especially from the sun) related conditions of the skin. A comprehensive grading scale for anti-aging of the skin has been validated and categorizes skin aging as: laxity (sagging), rhytids (wrinkles), and the various categories of photoaging, including erythema (redness), dyspigmentation (brown discolorations), solar elastosis (yellowing), keratoses (abnormal growths), and poor texture.

Despite great demand, many such products and treatments have not been proven to give lasting or major positive effects. One study found that the best performing creams reduced wrinkles by less than 10% over 12 weeks which is not noticeable to the human eye. Another study found that cheap moisturisers were as effective as high-priced anti-wrinkle creams. However, recent studies at Manchester University showed that some ingredients have an effect.Traditionally, anti-aging creams have been marketed towards women, but products specifically targeting men are increasingly common.
Many anti-wrinkle creams contain some form of retinal, which have been shown to rejuvenate the skin. The effects of these compounds likely depend on the concentration and how it is made. Clinical studies have demonstrated that the appearance of aged skin can be some what reversed by daily treatment with topical anti-aging agents. According to the website Health Marketplace.com, alpha-lipoic acid, an ingredient found in many anti-aging creams, function in four ways to help the slow skin aging process.

It is a very potent antioxidant and it helps maintain the health of the mitochondria, which is the powerhouse of the cell. When this cell is compromised, it cannot perform youthful repair functions. Also, it helps turn off an inflammatory messenger known as nuclear factor kappa B that can do much damage to the skin.

Alpha-lipoic acid activates a collagen-regulating factor known as AP-1 that turns on enzymes that digest damaged collagen. Another ingredient found in anti-aging cream is glycolic acid, which is the most potent of the alpha-hydroxy acids. It has been shown to aid wrinkle removal in aging human skin. The purpose of this ingredient is to break down old cells at the skin’s surface so they can be replaced with youthful cells from underneath the skin.
