Depilatory Cream

on Aug4 2011

Depilatory cream is an affordable method of removing hair in the privacy of your own home. It is also an excellent method of facial hair removal for women if used properly.

Depilatory creams work on dissolving the keratin in hair so it can easily be wiped away. However, the creams do not work on the root of the hair so results are temporary. Hair usually starts growing back within days depending on the person.

There are a number of ingredients in depilatory creams which act on the hair breaking down the bonds in the hair. Because the chemical agents can be very strong, it is important to use a depilatory cream that is specifically designed for that section of the body. There are hair removal creams designed for the face, the legs and the bikini area. Facial hair removal will require a more delicate depilatory than leg hair removal. It is also important to patch test an area of the skin with the depilatory cream to make sure that unusual redness, swelling and other skin issues do not occur.

Depilatories work in minutes depending on the area of the body you use them on. There may be a slight pink coloration to the skin, especially when used for facial hair removal for women, as facial skin can be very sensitive and delicate.

Aside from there ease of use and affordability another nice benefit of depilatory creams is you can easily get into small nooks and crannies, that may be hard to reach with other methods. Most cream depilatories also are enriched with oils or lanolin to soften and smooth the skin. Depilatory cream comes in a variety of forms including spray, cream and gels.

Their are a number of companies that make Depilatories including Surgi Cream, Nair etc.  Amazon offers a variety of depliatory cream . One of the nice things about Amazon is you can order, try it out in privacy of your own home and return it easily if you are unhappy for any reason.

Waxing Hair Removal

on Aug3 2011

With all of the methods of facial hair removal and products on the market today, it can be difficult to decide which to use. Yet waxing hair removal is simple and has many benefits.

The Waxing Difference
Waxing provides benefits such as those mentioned below:

Smoother skin – since waxing goes beyond the surface and pulls the hairs completely out at the root you get instant stubble free, soft skin.
The longest lasting results – because the hair is pulled out at the root it must reform at the root. This process typically takes a few weeks. The hair also grows back thinner after a wax hair removal; with shaving the hair often does the exact opposite.

It’s Precise – wax hair removal focuses in on specific areas and only removes the hair that has been coated with wax. As a result, you are sure to lose the hair just where you wanted to.

Look Pretty without Giving Up All Your Pretty Pennies – You’ll only need to wax every few weeks and the procedure is very inexpensive. Prices vary by location, type of wax used and the areas of facial hair you want covered. Yet, no matter where you go, using hair wax removal is not going to cost you all the pennies in your purse.

Waxing Options
There are two options for wax hair removal, hot or cold wax use. What’s the difference between the two?

Hot wax- hot wax hair removal is most commonly used and is most often associated with the pain that accompanies wax hair removal, yet it is extremely effective in getting rid of facial hair and hair on other parts of the body. This is because of the way it adheres to the hair as its temperature decreases and it hardens, once applied to the skin. Cloth strips are used to press and pull hair in the opposite direction for a perfect removal each time.

Cold Wax- cold wax hair removal is often less messy and if you fear the heat of a hot wax it may be the way to go (though professionals are often seen blowing hot wax to cool it a bit before applying it to a client’s face). Unlike hot wax, cold wax is already applied to its strips. Hair is removed the same way.

If facial hair has been causing you distress, contact a local salon to see if they offer waxing hair removal services or search for products to try waxing at home.

Sexy Legs Shaving

on Aug2 2011

No matter how shapely and toned your legs are, they won’t be sexy if they are covered in hair. Sexy legs have smooth, hairless skin. There are many ways to remove hair from your legs, but shaving is the most common, easiest and quickest choice. Read on to learn more.
 · 1

Buy shaving cream and a razor from the drugstore. Most shaving creams are comparable, but choose a quality razor with multiple blades, at least one moisturizing strip and an easy to hold handle. Cheap razors are more likely to nick your skin as you shave.

  • 2

Sit or stand in a warm bath or shower for several minutes before beginning to shave. The warm water will help soften and loosen the hair on your legs.

  • 3

Wash your legs with soap before you begin shaving. This will help prevent any infection if you happen to cut yourself while shaving.

  • 4

Prop one leg up on the side of the bathtub or in another area so that you can reach your leg more easily. Try to keep your leg out of the water as you shave.

  • 5

Squeeze shaving cream into your hand and lather the area on your leg you want to shave. The more hair you remove the sexier your leg will look, so don’t stop until you reach the hip.

  • 6

Position the razor flat against your skin at the bottom of your leg. Pull slowly up towards your knee, maintaining even pressure and contact throughout the stroke. You don’t need to press the razor down very hard, as the blades will do most of the work.

  • 7

Rinse hair and shaving cream off the blade when you finish each stroke.

  • 8

Continue to shave the entire leg in the same direction. Shaving against hair growth will give you the closest shave–the goal for sexy looking legs.

  • 9

Rinse leg when finished shaving.

  • 10

Repeat steps 3 through 9 for the opposite leg.

  • 11

Pat legs dry with a clean towel. Skin is sensitive after shaving, and rubbing them with the towel can cause irritation.

  • 12

Moisturize legs with a good lotion or cream after shaving. Shaving exfoliates the skin and causes dryness. The best looking legs have healthy, moist skin.

How to Do Underarm Hair Removal

on Jul30 2011
  • 1

Use a sharp razor blade or clippers to shave your underarm hair. This method is the easiest, as it takes no longer than three to five minutes to finish. Along with using a razor, you can also put shaving cream under the arms to prevent any irritation or scars on the skin. It is also best to take a bath or shower prior to shaving as the pores in your skin can easily open and soften the hair enough to shave easily. You will stay hairless for at least a week using this method.

  • 2

See a Laser Hair Removal Specialist if you want your underarm hair removed professionally. Generally most procedures will cost from $100 to $150 for hair removal and the treatment will last between five to seven minutes long. The specialist will target the area where hair is found under the armpits with a laser light and automatically take away any hair. For permanent results, you might need to make a few more visits to the hair specialist as hair cells grow frequently.

  • 3

Buy a hair removal cream–also known as Chemical depilatory that chemically works to get rid of each hair strand. This type of hair removal proven to be one of the safest ways to easily remove underarm hair automatically without the risk of any cuts or razor bumps. There are different types of Chemical depilatories that you can use: creams, gels, roll-ons, mousses or sprays. Different formulas are available, depending on the texture of your hair, whether it is coarse or fine. If your skin is sensitive, you can choose Aloe Vera or a moisturizing formula as it is less harsh on the skin. A popular brand such as ‘Veet’ or ‘Sally Hansen’ sells variety of hair removal creams for your specific needs.

  • 4

Visit a salon/spa to get professional waxing done for your underarms. In order to get waxing, the hairs under both of your arms must be between 1/4- to 1/2-inch long for it to be stripped off the skin. Another option to consider is buying a do-it-yourself waxing kit without being in the hands of a cosmetologist. The only thing you need is waxing strips and a cloth to clean the underarm where the hairs were once located. This method last two to eight weeks depending on how properly the hair was removed.

  • 5

Get electrolysis if you want permanent removal of the underarm hair. Electrolysis is best to be performed by a professional so there is a less chance of any skin infections or permanent damage to the skin. The opposite to the laser procedure, electrolysis has an electric current run down the hair follicles while completely destroying the hair roots and leaving zero chance of hair ever growing back under the arms.

Home remedies for hair removal

on Jul22 2011

If you have sensitive skin, it inadvisable to use temporary methods like depilatory creams or waxing . In many places it is difficult to find a trained person to do electrolysis or hair reduction using laser, so many use home remedies for hair removal. The effectiveness of these methods is not checked by scientific studies, but these methods have been used for centuries

Make a paste of yogurt + besan (gram flour) + haldi (turmeric).
Rub the paste gently on the area with hair and leave it for 15-20 minutes till the paste is dried.
Then rub the paste away in the direction opposite to the hair growth.
Apply baby oil to soothe the skin
Instead of the besan + turmeric paste, turmeric alone can be applied but besan tightens the skin when dried. Yoghurt/curds can be substituted by milk. If you have oily skin, water or rose water should be used instead of curd and milk. To reduce yellowness of the skin, facial turmeric (Kasturi manjal or Gopuram Turmeric powder) should be used instead of food turmeric.

The turmeric+besan paste method of hair removal has to be followed regularly for a period of a few months before it is effective. It is used on babies and small children as conventional hair removal methods are very harsh

Hair Grows in Different Body Areas

on Jul22 2011

Hair grows all over our bodies, except for a few areas, such as our lips, palms of our hands and soles of our feet.

When we reach puberty we also start growing a different type of hair. Men, due to the androgen hormones, grow more of this type of hair in more places, but women do start growing this hair, but to a lesser extent.

Now, there are basically three types of hair, and by the way only mammals have hair.

These are:

Lanugo, which grows on the body, is present in feotuses and is usually shed early on. Its main function is to insulte the skin due to lack of fat. Many anorexia sufferers develop lanugo.
Vellus, being the short fin body hair that grows on our bodies, on both sexes.
Terminal hair, being the subject of hair removal. It is the longer, stronger hair that grows in certain areas of our bodies, such as scalp, face, eyebrows, under arm, pubic area. It can also grow on chest, legs, back, etc.

By Body Area:

The growth of terminal hair in areas of our bodies aside from scalp, eybrows and eye lashes, generally begins with puberty in both men and women. Men tend to have more terminal hair on their bodies due to the develpment of androgen hotmones (testosterone, for example); however both men and women have the same capacity for hair growth.
The body areas from which we remove hair are:

Face (facial hair). And the typical hair removal method is shaving (both electrical or with razors). For women, additional methods would be plucking (including tweezing), chemical depilatories or for longer term hair reduction, laser and electrolysis.

Chest. For women, generally it will be plucking or a depilatory for coarse hair that may grow round the nipples. This is quite common.

Under Arm. The most common practice is shaving, followed by waxing. Shaving can cause skin irritation so it is also a question of being careful. With regards to waxing, I can’t deal with the pain, but having said that, it works just fine for many women. If tempted to go with chemical depilatories, try it out in a small area as it can cause burns – the under arm area is very sensitive.

Abdominal Area. Some women do have hair growth creeping up from the loins. The alternatives are wider, where any of the methods, shaving, waxing, depilatory creams, lasering, electrolysis, can do very well. Home hair removal would go with the first three, professional application would be with lasering and electrolysisi.

Pubic Area and Bikini. This will be either partial or total. Shaving, waxing (including brazilian waxing or biikini line).

Legs. Women have been removing leg hair for centuries so this is nothing new. For a time fashion made women hide their legs, but since the 1920´s they have been shoing more leg and therefore removing leg hair. The original method was probably sugar waxing, then shaving. Today both shaving and waxing (cold, hot, sugaring..) are the most common ways of doing it.
